The Theatre of the West has been considered for over 100years as one of the most beautiful theatres for musical and operetta. The neo-baroque building, constructed in 1896 is decorated with small towers. It is designed with an impressive mirrored foyer.
We took the picture when we went to Berlin Zoo.

Meetings with authors:

The Performance (by Jenny 6c):

We went with our class on 8.26.2011 to the "bread factory" to see a theater performance of the author Mrs Maya Das Gupta.

The bread factory is a cultural center in Berlin. It is located on Caligariplatz in the district Weissensee, near the intersection of Prenzlauer Allee and Wisbyer Street / Baltic Street.
At 15:00 we were allowed to enter. We could see how the actors are still prepared.

In the play, Mrs. Scatterbrain (the grandmother) and Miss Scatterbrain (granddaughter), made a journey to look for two skull halves of an ancestor.

A narrator told us the content of history and what happened in between.

At the end of the journey, they found not only the skull, they also learned something from the land of their ancestors.

Interview with the author: Maya Das Gupta (by Christine and Jenny)

Maja Gupta came in our class, we knew her from our shared theater project. We heard some of their stories. The main character in the texts was Ronja.
First, after Christmas, then after her aunt, and finally to a tiger.
We liked it very much. Especially the story with the tiger was fun because we were able to suggest how it ends.

Finally, we asked Maja a few questions :

Q: Does that work with young people and kids having fun?
A: Yes, it's fun.

Q: Is your job hard?
A: Depends.

Q: How long have you worked as a writer?
A: I work for about 4-5 years.

Q: Have you used a different profession?
A: Yes, I used a different career. I taught English and writing radio plays.
Q: How many stories have you ever written?
A: I have written more than 5 stories.

Q: How did you get this job?
A: I always wanted this job. I've already written in the primary school.

Q: How did you get the different stories?
A: Sometimes I bring a set at the beginning of it or a picture.

Q: Why did you pursue this career?
A: Because I want to tell you something.

Thank you, Maja, for the beautiful hours!

German Actress, Frau Simone Mutschler.

Autorin.jpg

Frau Mutschler performed 'Snow White' / Schneewittchen for us on 23. March 2011. Frau Mutschler is an German Actress who performes plays all around England and Germany, for Kindergartens and Primary Schools. The event was organized by the 'Goethe Institut in Manchester'.
Frau Mutschler played all the charactors herself and we got to join in by repeating different phrases. The play was performed bilingual in both languages English and German, so everyone could understand!
The way the charactors were played was very funny, we were laughing all the way through the play.
Afterwards we ask a few questions:
Is it hard to play each charactor yourself without any help?
Reply: It takes a lot of practise but it keeps your audience
engaged and encourages the children to join in.
What qualities do you have to have to become an actor / actress?
Reply: You have to be good at showing emotions, using facial
exspressions and body language. If you have a passion for
performing and playing to an audience, and don't mind
working hard, then this may be the job for you!
for you.
