Arrival - late afternoon. To meet the co-coordinator of partner school at Berlin airport, following a short introduction. To agree times for working in the school and to exchange information on transport to and from school.
Tuesday 22. June 10
To take local transport to Siegerland - Schule, spending a whole school day in our partner school. Introduction to the school, staff and pupils with a tour of the School grounds and surroundings. Presenting small gifts from our home town. Pupils taking part in activities (songs, games ect.) with the partner school. Exchanging ideas for a diary / booklet, working with a partner and communicating in both languages. A group of children begin their video.
Wednesday
23.June 10
Partner school to meet us at the Hostel to discuss the Timetable for the joint visit of the day. A visit to a museum (to be selected by partner school) relating to curriculum history subject WWII. Children to continue video footage together with theirpartners. Afternoon activities- to continue working on their diaries.
Thursday
24. June 10
To meet partner school at the Hostel for a planned visit to the capital ‘Berlin’, visiting the Brandenburger Tor and Surroundings. The children will make notes in their jotters for their diaries / booklets and will continue filming and also take photographs of the event.
Friday
25.June 10
We will meet together at the Siegerland - Schule, the children will complete any unfinished written work and also their Video clips. Say good bye to everyone. The children can exchange their E-mail addresses.
Aims:
Visit our Partner School.
Sharing and participating in their school day.
Children will be able to compare / establish the contrast between the British Schooling systems to the German system.
Share information about how children live in Germany, after school activities, hobbies / interests and places to go for children.
To see firsthand how the language they’ve been learning is used.
To link KS2 curriculum / history topic WWII by visiting key monuments, museums and historic sites.
To sample German Culture.
Expected Outcomes:
The children will be able to participate in partner school activities with songs, games, hands-on activities and learnt language.
To witness language being use, improve and build on their listening and speaking skills.
To relate to KS2 history curriculum subject WWII, to be able to have real experiences by visiting sites of interest.
To gain an insight into how German children are educated.
To create a diary of events taking place together with the German children and producing their own video during their stay in Germany.
The children from both schools to work together in creating a diary or booklet about the visit ‘Dunston went to Berlin’.
The children will produce a video of their surroundings / sites of interests taking turns in using Digit-Blue ICT tool (small video cameras).
